Friday, 9 April 2010

Sorry its late, it was finished on time just wasn't posted with much urgency, so onto the next month, more rats me thinks so, going to do Plague Cencer Baerers, 4 blisters gives me 8 and comes in just over at £32. They'll go nicely with my monks and Furness me thinks.

general chit chat

All quiet on the western front here... And this is a complete aside from this project, but seeing as I don't see you guys that often, I just wondered what peoples' thoughts on the new blood angels' codex was?
Do you think they are crazily powerful? They sound like they are going to be quite a horrid force, much more powerful than any so far; I'm being a moaning old space wolf player - I thought we were the combat army of the space marines, some of their rules are just sick!

Appreciate if this isn't in keeping with the blog, just thought I'd spark some conversation on here. I have got to paint some clan rats for this month.

Assassins rule!

So the plague monks in this picture may be the same as the ones in the last post, but as Jamie will confirm they are 40 of them total just over the weeks that they have been painted for the old and the new all got mixed up.
Check out the warpfire thrower, what a classic, though still looks alright as long as you don't put it to close to the clanrats as it becomes really apparent how tall weapon team crew are! Finaly my assassin which I am rather prowed of as I wanted him appearing to leapforth from the unit but at the same time stand allown for when he go's it solo. In all my recent games he has been my most fun character to play with. This is due to his sneaky vercitility from skitterleapiung and cousing 5 wounds on a shagoth with his warpstars to infultrateing and dodging a hellblaster volly before killing all the crew. The hour glass was added as I like the idea of him always being agenst the clock and I wanted to have a go after reading White Dwarf.
Let me your thoughts and pointers.

My Stuff for Feb.
Dark Riders and an Assassin

its a SCREAM!!!!ing bell

Ok so it was pretty much done by end of Feb, I just needed to finish the green smoke bits (which you can see are rushed slightly) anyway I got fed up painting it by then such a massive thing with lots of detail!

But its finished as my Feb project, here it is!

February!!!... nearly over.... Vamp update.

Did ya miss me? :)

Hmmm.. excuses... I kinda got a job, dun dun dunnnnn, ah well, Skipping swiftly over the shambles of really simply not bothering to paint all those skeletons (I did half of them!).

Moving onto february of which i am clearly not going to finish the project in time, but come early march i WILL have finished my jan and feb projects and be up to date for march.

Essentially i will be doing 10 graveguard and a vamp for "february". (£18+£12=£30)

And for march it will be the same again! As my wizards and heros are all vampires.

So by the end of march i should have completed; 2 units of ten skeletons, 1 unit of ten ghouls, 1 unit of twenty grave guard and 2 vampires. So I'll be up to date, in theory!

A few footnotes;
  • Seals, liking those high elves dude! High elves on cold ones, nice try...
  • Sam, horde o'rats genius flowing concept. Also warpfire throwers are filth, take one over the gun any day i think.
  • Rich G, liking the purple rats, and sweet looking halberds dude.
  • Tumnus, you suck!
  • Rich B, tomb kings brave choice. I like your unit colour co-ordination.
  • Jamie, nice dark elves, kick seals' high elf ass!!
  • Garreth, sweet scheme going on, we should all follow suit i think. Grey could be the way forward!

I'm done now :)

James' Availability

Hi Guys,

For those of you that don't know, there have been a few unexpected developments with James' house build so he might not be adding much here over the next few weeks.

My Feb Stuff

Hey all, My Jan stuff, 2x Skeleton Warriors @ £18 and 1x Tomb King @ £8 came to a mighty £44 so this month I shall be adding 3x Ushabti @ £12 putting me up to date budget-wise and my Tomb King will be my most awesome Hero of Awesomeness.

However I have a concern, there are very solid seeming rumours that Tomb Kings are due for a re-release in May with new kits associated not sure what to get in March and April, allegedly there will be a plastic bone giant and plastic tomb guard in the new bits.

Feb Project

Been a bit quiet on here lately which is a concern that we between 9 of us couldn't keep this blog going? Or is it that we have been distracted by other interests? Anyway thought that I'd carry on regardless, because I'm dead stubborn. So my 3rd months project is,

Plague Monks - £18
Warpfire Thrower - £8
Total - £26

And my character will be my amazing assassin. (he's really fun to use)
So that gives me £4 to add on to next months project. It was between the Warpfire thrower and a ratling gun. Every time I've use the gun its misfires, mainly because I push it to hard, but when you've rolled a 1 then a 2 the only thing you can do is shoot more or do no damage! Whereas no partials a higher strength and D3 wounds makes the thrower more than worth the extra 15 points you pay. Unless it gets shot (damn you Jamie!) then it doesn't matter either way.

Voting Time!

Guys, as Rich B so rightly said, my life has been turned upside down recently. Basically we were having a lot of work doing to our new house, to make it livable - at great expense, and the builder has basically fucked us over. This means that all my spare time for at least the next month will be spent on the house, and not painting toy soldiers. Which sucks! Anyway, please see below the voting for January's project. Rich B was gonna send me a picture of his standard bearer, but didn't...

(apparently, I paint doors and skirting boards just as slowly as I paint models - who'd have thunk it?)

So, these are the entries for the standard bearer. Please vote by commenting below. Also, don't for yourself - that's gay!

I suck

So, I could blame the mail order trolls for taking so long to send my shields. I could blame Football Manager 2009 for distracting me. I could blame Rich Bates for making me play Space Hulk and Bloodbowl. I could blame my new house, getting married, stressing about getting a new job. I could blame any of these things but ultimately, I haven't painted all my models because I suck! I have 10 completed models, 1 nearly done, and the rest are all built. So, 1 point for building, and 3 for attempting the modelling project.

These are the 10 models that are finished. I have to say I'm pretty pleased with them. The snow is working really well and they look (in my opinion) increasingly less like High Elves.

This is the Cold One Rider I'm still painting. REALLY pleased with the results on him - spent a lot of effort doing the blending but it's really paid off. Kudos to Martin Jennens for suggesting a purple wash on the flesh - it really lifts the model (although you can't particularly see it on these pictures).

This is one of the Crossbowmen to give you an idea what they'll look like. I had a lot of fun cutting one hand off each crossbow to enable me to have them aiming the crossbow over the top of the shield.

You may have noticed some High Elf bits dotted about. This is deliberate. The idea behind my army is that (a) they're from somewhere cold, and (b) they like to raid High Elf lands. Specifically, the lands from which Luke's army comes! When he started looking at High Elves he kept going on about how cool White Lions are (which is true) so I thought it'd be cool to have Lion-Hunting Cold One Riders, which is why they have lion capes and a lion's head on their banner. Also, on the Warriors' banner there's a shield, bow and spear, painted in what I believe are Luke's colours, although I can't be sure as he hasn't shown me any pictures! Anyway, they should be red and white so I painted them all weathered and stuff! What do you all think?

Quick question, while I think of it...

In a unit that has a Unit Standard Bearer and the Battle Standard Bearer, does it look weird? Should you account for it by having a smaller Unit Standard? My unit of Executioners will have their own standard, and the battle standard. I'm going to use a Witch Elf to do the BSB, which will have quite a large flag, and I was going to convert the Executioner's Standard so that it's a bit more racy than the usual one (plus I want to convert as much of everything as possible, to make it stand out). Will the unit look stoopid with 2 good sized flags in the front rank? There'll either be 18 or 21 in the unit, in 3 ranks...

Answers on a postcard please.

January Judging

Guys, I'm still waiting to hear from Flello re his standard. When I have the picture I'll post them all up for some voting. Gareth hasn't painted any models yet, but will post a picture of his assembled ones shortly! I think Luke is a bit too busy setting up his new company to spend time painting models right now. I know Flello has 'painted' quite a bit so we should at least see something before we close the book on January. I'll post pictures of my January stuff tomorrow - going to bed right now!

One Battallion, Check. Points please.

All my months project, those sharp of eye will notice that there are not the wright number of models from the battleforce this has been rectified since the picture was taken.

Jamie's unit of choppy death!

My project for the tale;

20 Executioners with full command. Im also a pound in debt as the unit came to £51!

Next month some dark riders to fill some core.

bit of a better shot of the Tomb King

1 Tomb King & 32 Warriors which due to budgetary restrictions I didn't even have until the 21st but here they are in all their bony glory.

Part 3 and my banner!

Last bit of pictures for a while and to prove that I have painted my whole 2 month project! Clanrats!! These out of all of them took the longest, as they include more colours and rat ogres. So why the rat ogres in the unit?
1. I was inspired by how cool Lizardmen units look with skinks and kroxigor.
2. I initially didn't want them to be a unit in the army, but have since changed my mind but going to make them out of the new minotaurs cos they are cooler.
3. I've been trying to look at how the army and each unit looks as a whole as particularly in fantasy it's more about the many where, more in the case of skaven, whereas in 40k its more about the individual. That's the way I see it anyway. So I wanted to make my units resemble the artwork more, a mass hoard of unruly different sized rats.
What do you think?

Ok so the banner followed the same principle of massed units and I thought it important to make him look a part of the unit and at the same time more important. Most fundamental though as far as the Battle Standard was concerned is that he isn't right at the front of the unit. Thanks very much for the inspiration Rich, I wouldn't have done it without your previous post.

I know the piuctures are out of order but technology beat me and can't work out how to move them!
When do we score?
Where is everybody as not many have commented in ages?
How do we judge the projects?

Tsk Tsk

Just buying my new models for February on GW online. Get to checkout. "Don't Forget: Top 5 Hobby Supplies You Need... Super Glue £4, Plastic Glue £4, Skull White Spray £5, Chaos Black Spray £5, Citadel Realm of Battle Game Board £150"

CITADEL REALM OF BATTLE GAME BOARD £150????? Hardly what you call an essential hobby supply...

Part 2 The Slaves

So on to the next lot of painting. The next regiment that I painted was the Slaves, simular pricibles all highlights are done with Fortress Grey and again Devlan mud paints all! Though there was something paticualarly gauling about the fact that each slave takes longer to paint than the plague monks but costs less than a third of the points!

It's about time...

OK, so I've commented allot on everyone else achievements, and told you that I've been busy painting my own, but was unable to show you anything, as my camera and my laptop don't get on. Jamie to the rescue he came in my shop and we photographed everything that I've done so far.
But there's quite allot so I thought Id cover it in a cupple of blogs.
With the acception of one base and a single plague monk (yes I only did 19 didn't realise I'd left one out till too late) I've painter my whole project for the first 2 months in the words of Allan Partrige, 'Kiss my face!'

So heare are my plague monks as I painted them first.
