Now for something completely different!

After over a month of the tale my Woodies haven't really got off the ground.

Every time I sit down to paint them I end up painting Dark Elves instead, so much so that Ive almost finished 1 of my 4 Dark Elves armies!

Thus Im going to regress to a snot nosed kid who swaps and changes his army more times than his underwear and do Dark Elves for the tale.

I mentioned I have 4 different armies; pink elves, warriors (the ones I've almost finished), corsairs and Khainites.

Its the Khainites that I shall be doing for the tale.

Going to be limiting myself quite a lot to keep with the theme but also want a competive army so will be working on a list.

I have done a tester tho. What do you think. Im not sure if the gold works. Any ideas?

  1. ohhh come on you know you want to do your wood elves really... thats the spirit of this thing to do something completely new! as you say you've already got dark elves, why would you need a 4th army of them!
not to be a spoil sport but what would you be doing about buying things each month and building etc (if you already have them bought and built?...)
Anyway, the gold... Think its ok in the colour scheme, but i always find gold works best when it is highlighted properly rather than a blanket piece of gold get some dark/medium browns in the was to give it some contrast as a metal.

  2. Hmm... ok, perhaps I could add a little more. The way I did my gold (which I got from Rich Bates, who hasn't actually joined the blog yet due to employment related issues (any day now apparently) even though it was his idea in the first place) was as follows:

    Scorched brown base coat.
Mix some shining gold into the brown and dry brush.
Keep adding shining gold and dry brushing, going increasingly just around the edges.
Do a final dry brush of pure shining gold.

The main issue I found was that I was washing the brush after every coat, which meant some of my dry brushes were decidedly wet...

  3. When I said I had the army, what I have is 40 Executioners and 21 Witch Elves, so I have to buy lots for the army (Sam was happy at this!), where as I have the entire Wood Elf army to the point I was playing games with it!

I dont want the tale to be a chore, but fun and I always get excited with Dark Elves!

Thanks for the tips with the gold. Mine is a mix of gold/brown but is quite flat so will highlight it. Still not quite happy with the scheme so shall have another play!
